After Rod McPike’s passing, Mayor Brown wrote a lengthy letter. Look at what he wrote in the note:

“He was a key player in many different not-for-profits and held events across the community. I look back to when we first formed “The Mayor’s Run” back in 2007. For certain, Propak was among the first organizations to sit at the table. Additionally, Community Links and other organizations which Propak has supported throughout the years showed the importance of community to him. Airdrie was always crucial to Propak … Everyone (in the non-profit community in general) is deeply saddened by the announcement. Propak did it because he was a fan of the community. A majority of his employees came to the area after they secured employment. They had been living in Airdrie and he did not want to relocate them … It’s not just because Propak is Propak’s largest employer in our company. Rather, their current employees and former employees, and we’re talking about thousands of people, are impacted by Rod and his staff at Propak. Rod has provided a lot of opportunities for people to have children and to buy houses. I truly believe that it was him who was the Alberta entrepreneur, “stated Brown. He had a modest beginning, working alone at first before growing to be one of the biggest employers in the neighbourhood. I’m confident that those who worked under Rod inherited the entrepreneurial spirit he so dearly cherished.”
