Gordon Sparks had been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and tweeted on October 14, 2022, Friday, 2022, to announce that he had moved into hospice following an update to his followers on his deteriorating situation the day prior.

Gordon Sparks was known for his ability to commentate on his station, the Plymouth Argyle. He began his career in radio for hospital radio, and later was recruited by Plymouth Sound before moving on to the BBC. In recent times, he has hosted breakfast programming presenter on Radio Devon.

The station has paid tribute to him by offering special programs and special features throughout the day today . RIP Sparksy is currently trending across social media. The month of August was when Plymouth Argyle named the press box after him in the recently updated Mayflower Stand.

Sparks died on Sunday, October 16, 2022 . He was survived by his wife who’s surname is Heather. He also had two daughters named Kirsty as well as Holly, and passed away at the age of 61.

Former Director of BBC South and Acting Director of BBC England, Jason Horton, paid respects. He wrote: “Such sad news: @SparksyOnRadio was a journalist who loved his viewers greatly, was a fan of his work, and loved @Argyle. Many people will mourn Gordon greatly.” Thousands have paid tribute to Gordon since many considered his voice to represent Pylmouth the Argyle.

One of the people who expressed their condolences included Sharron Davies, an Olympic winner. According to her she remembered him as a great friend with a lively voice.

Angela Kalwaites, known for hosting flowstation, posted on Twitter: “Our great colleague and friend will be sorely missed by all.”

Stephanie Marshall, popularly known as the director of BBC South West and South and South, stated: “It’s a sad day for BBC Radio. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gordon’s family loyal listeners and family.”
