The Early Years of Gina Carano
Carano is the daughter of a casino director and a professional footballer, Glenn Carano and Dana Joy Cason. She was raised in Dallas County, Texas, and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gina is one of three sisters, and the middle one. When her parents divorced at the age of seven, Gina was just seven years old and she was raised by her mom. Although she only has a “small fraction of Italian” in her ancestry, she has said that her family has “an Italian celebration” annually.
The girls’ basketball team she coached at Trinity Christian High School in Las Vegas won the state championship just before Carano was able to graduate. She also played volleyball and softball. She earned a degree in psychology, attending for 3 years the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, after a one-year stint at Reno’s University of Nevada, Reno.
Gina Carano’s Career in Mixed Martial Arts
Muay Thai was the place where Carano began her professional journey. Carano was drawn to the sport due to her former boyfriend, Kevin Ross, a professional Muay Thai fighter. After having accumulated a twelve-one-1 Muay Thai mark, Carano received an invitation from Jamie Levine with an opportunity to participate in the very first women’s MMA fight in Nevada as part of World Extreme Fighting against Leiticia Pestova (a match that Carano won in just 38 seconds). She was offered a fight against Rosi Sexton at the World Pro Fighting event in Las Vegas. In the second round, late in the fight, Carano submitted Sexton to take the fight.
Kobold initially attempted to take down Carano and worked to take down Carano for the duration of the battle. After the 2nd round, Kobold managed to take down Carano. However, the fight ended before she was able to use it in a way that was effective. As the fight broke down, Carano took advantage of her chances by pounding Kobold with every opportunity and causing a large tear on the inside of her opponent’s brow in the first round. Carano attempted to stop the fight at the conclusion of three rounds with an uppercut that landed on the chin of Kobold. However, Kobold was in a position to stand in the third round and was declared lost. Carano won in a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27, as well as 29-28).
Fighting for the Strikeforce Women’s Lightweight Championship

From August of 2009 onwards, Carano hasn’t competed, and there are no more tournaments in mind.
Carano is still fighting with four fights remaining on the original Strikeforce contract and is in an agreement with the UFC.
In an appearance on the Arsenio Hall Show on April 14, 2014, Carano admitted to contemplating going back to mixed martial arts.
The talks on a contract between the UFC and Carano were reportedly stopped on September 14, 2014. Ronda Rousey stated during her appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience 690 podcast that a fight with Gina Carano was slated for December 2014, but did not happen.
Gina Carano’s Career in Cinema and Television
In the 2005 film Ring Girls, Carano played the role of the main character.
Ring Girls is a thrilling story that is based on real events and follows five American women who hail from Las Vegas as they take on the biggest task of competing against the top Muay Thai fighters in the world.
On the 2007 Oxygen reality show Fight Girls, Carano and Lisa King mentored wannabe fighters. We were extremely harsh on each other. I was thrown against the walls by him. He hit my head with such force that I lost it for a moment and then became white. We slammed knees at times, and he began to stumble.
Carano joined the actor’s cast of John Stockwell’s action thriller In the Blood in February 2012. After a man goes missing during a vacation in the Caribbean with his wife, who is played by Carano, the film starts.
The grieving wife seeks out the people she believes are the ones responsible for his abduction and murders them brutally and mercilessly. The character of Gina attempts to “[rein] in” her brutal past. According to Stockwell, “this portion will demonstrate Gina’s acting skills as well as her fighting skills.”
