‘Dancing With the Stars’ Week 5, Night 1: Charli D’Amelio Earns First 10s of the Season, Surprise Announcement Changes Competition

This Monday evening, on the second day of Week 5’s second “Dancing With the Stars” event, social media star Charli D’Amelio didn’t just hold the top spot on the leaderboard; she also scored the first 10s of the season with her contemporary and moving dance about her battle with anxiety, with dancer Mark Ballas as a very frightening representation of the emotion.

The judge, Carrie Ann Inaba, proclaimed the dance “perfection” and admitted that at one moment, Ballas—who looked as if he was Russian villain Rasputin—terrified her when he aggressively confronted the vulnerable D’Amelio.

The moment that ignited the dance floor was Selma Blair’s shock announcement that this evening would be her final dance. The judges, her and the other participants cried as she gracefully took her bow and told her doctor that she was worried that the dance was too much for her fragile body.

“I am going to be OK, but I don’t want there to be something serious,” said the actress she was first diagnosed in 2018 with MS in the year 2018. She expressed her fears of injury. “If I get hurt again, I’m afraid I won’t get back.”

The judge gave the former star four 10s. This enraged Selma, who was crying over the plethora of love she received from the other stars, dancers, and everyone else on the stage. “It feels so good,” she declared with a smile of warmth, noting that she was honored to share this moment with the dancers she was dancing with. The closing credits started rolling, and they carried her up, with her cane and everyone else, as the crowd booed.

Wayne Brady was the second star to score a number 10 at the end of Monday’s night, as well as three 9s for the “graceful, effortless” Foxtrot with his partner Witney Carson.
